I am a student in the doctoral program in English. I am interested in Literature of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In particular, I am curious about the machinations of courtly and devotional poetry in this period, and the social, emotional and sexual economies of these texts. I am struck by strong currents of procreation anxiety in, for instance, sonnet sequences, where the imperatives of a society of Christian dispensation are troubled by constellations of less licit relationships and counter-productive desires. I find Psychoanalysis a key critical handle in my readings. Beyond the Renaissance, I am fascinated by a tradition of literary cultures that negotiate, religion, god and bodies, from GM Hopkins to Anne Sexton.
