Application Process

We are no longer accepting applications for the 2024-2025 year.

Information on how to apply for both English and Nonfiction honors.

Application Steps

Before you apply: 

  1. If you have not yet declared your concentration in English, please see any one of the undergraduate concentration advisors for guidance in completing the concentration form.
  2. Any questions about completing the Honors application should be directed to Professor Deak Nabers for Literature or Professor Jim Egan for Nonfiction
  3. Update your ASK concentration plan so that it accurately reflects the courses you are using toward the concentration. You will need to certify on the application that this has been completed.

Application requirements: 

  1. A writing sample (no more than 15-20 pages) 1000-level course related to your proposed project.
  2. A thesis proposal (minimum of one page single-spaced) including the rationale of the project, your background in relation to it, and a bibliography.
  3. TWO (2) statements of support to be submitted by the application deadline as follows:
    • A statement of support from the English faculty member who has agreed to serve as your first reader AND a statement of support from a faculty member from whom you have taken a 1000-level course OR from a faculty member who knows your work well.
    • Faculty are to mail Professor Deak Nabers, Honors Advisor in English, a brief statement of support with Danielle Adams cc'd
    • Faculty recommending students for the Nonfiction Program must fill out this Google Form

The application for the academic year 2024-2025 is now open. The deadline is Friday, April 5, 2024.

For mid-years/Option 2

All requirements are the same. The application to start in Spring 2024 is now closed.

Decision

Applications will be evaluated and candidates will be informed of the decision before the start of registration for fall courses. Students whose applications have been accepted should register for the appropriate honors seminar the following semester.
